19th Annual Poker Run - May 4th, 2008 - The Poker Run was held on a beautiful sunny day this year. While playing poker and riding from Eaton to Cheyenne, from Wellington to Johnstown and then into Greeley, motorcycle enthusiasts donated 286 pounds of food and $1390 to support Weld Food Bank’s hunger relief programs. Many thanks to all who “rode the wind” to help alleviate hunger in our county.

Corporate Food Challenge - April 2008 - More than $20,500 and 5700 pounds of food was raised by 13 competing businesses in the 4th Annual Corporate Food Challenge. Points were awarded for every pound of food and every dollar donated. Trophies were awarded for Largest Food Contribution, Largest Monetary Contribution, and Largest Overall Contribution (based on percentage per company employee). A fourth trophy was added this year for Most Volunteer Sorting Hours. Competing teams were encouraged to send employees to the food bank to help sort donated food so it could be distributed immediately to either the 116 non-profit agencies that rely on Weld Food Bank for food, or for direct service programs including Kid’s Cafe, the Backpack Program for Kids, or emergency food boxes.
In every previous year, StarTek has swept every category in the competition. This year, in an unexpected upset, and amidst hoops and hollers, Meadow Gold was awarded the trophy for Best Overall Contribution while StarTek retained Most Money, Most Food and Most Volunteer Hours trophies!  The Weld Sheriff’s Office was recognized as “Rookie Challenger of the Year”.
Congratulations to all companies that participated to help the hungry in Weld County. Challengers included: Advanced Forming Technology, Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, Bonnell Good Samaritan Community, DCP Midstream, Greeley Tribune, Harsh International, Hall Irwin, Honda of Greeley, Meadow Gold Dairy, North Range Behavioral Health, StarTek, Weld County Sheriff’s Office and Women’s Clinic of Greeley.
